Raw Material Preparation
The production of roll PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) film begins with the preparation of raw materials, primarily PET resin. The resin is typically sourced in pellet form and must meet specific quality standards to ensure optimal film characteristics. These pellets are often dried under controlled conditions to eliminate moisture, which can adversely affect the film’s properties during extrusion.
In addition to the PET resin, various additives may be incorporated into the formulation to enhance specific attributes of the film, such as UV resistance, antistatic properties, and thermal stability. The precise combination of these materials is crucial, as it directly influences the final product’s performance and applications.
Extrusion Process
Once the raw materials are prepared, the next step is the extrusion process. In this stage, the PET pellets are fed into an extruder, where they are melted and formed into a continuous sheet through a die. The temperature and pressure within the extruder are carefully controlled to ensure a uniform melt flow, which is essential for achieving consistent film thickness and quality.

The molten PET is then cooled and solidified as it is cast onto a chill roll or quenched in a cooling bath. This rapid cooling process helps to set the film’s structure. After this, the film is typically stretched in both the machine direction (MD) and transverse direction (TD) to enhance its mechanical properties, including tensile strength and clarity.
Finishing and Quality Control
After the extrusion and stretching processes, the roll PET film undergoes various finishing operations. These may include surface treatments, such as corona discharge or plasma treatment, which improve the film’s adhesion properties for printing and laminating. The film is then wound onto large rolls, ready for conversion into smaller formats or direct use in packaging and other applications.
