Films Protective Company is a manufacturer of uv stabilized polyethylene film for greenhouse covering, construction protection, outdoor packaging, and polyethylene vapour barrier use. This outdoor weatherable polyethylene film is made from LDPE / LLDPE / PE resin with a resin-blended UV stabilizer package, including HALS, UV absorber, and antioxidant additives. Typical grades cover 50-250 um thickness, 1-14 m width, clear to black-white colors, and 6-36 months outdoor weathering, depending on climate, fixing method, and exposure time.

Product Overview

UV stabilized polyethylene film is used where ordinary PE sheeting may stiffen, crack, lose elongation, or tear from small edge cuts after sunlight, rain, wind, and temperature cycling. Because the UV stabilizer system is added during extrusion, protection works through the material body rather than only on the surface. This matters when wide rolls are folded, tied, stapled, stretched over frames, or exposed to wind vibration.

The resin blend can be adjusted by use condition. LDPE improves softness, clarity, sealability, and roll handling. LLDPE adds puncture resistance, tear strength, and MD/TD tensile balance, with typical tensile strength around MD 18-26 MPa and TD 16-24 MPa. Clear greenhouse grades can reach 85%-90% light transmission, while 8%-35% haze helps soften direct sunlight. Milky white grades reduce heat build-up, and black or black-white grades are used for light blocking, equipment shielding, ground cover, and outdoor storage. For large-volume use, sample roll testing under the real fixing method is recommended before full production.

Benefits

  • Outdoor aging resistance:HALS, UV absorber, and antioxidant additives help slow brittleness, cracking, color shift, strength loss, and early tear propagation.
  • Balanced PE performance:LDPE keeps flexibility and clarity, while LLDPE improves puncture resistance, edge-tear control, and MD/TD tensile stability.
  • Selectable optical grade:Clear film supports 85%-90% light transmission; diffusion grades with 8%-35% haze reduce harsh direct light.
  • Practical thickness range:50-250 um supports greenhouse cover, construction cover, outdoor packaging, short wrapping cycles, and vapour barrier use.
  • Stable large-roll handling:+/-5% thickness tolerance, slit width control, roll tension, and folded-width options help reduce wrinkles and waste.
  • PE-based recyclability:Clean PE film can be recycled where suitable collection and processing streams are available.

What makes UV stabilized polyethylene film more reliable for outdoor exposure?

Standard PE sheeting may look acceptable at installation, but UV exposure can reduce elongation and cause splitting from staple points, fold lines, punctures, or edge cuts. A UV resistant PE covering film uses a resin-blended stabilizer package to slow photo-oxidation and retain usable strength through the rated exposure period. A windy frame needs stronger tear resistance than a loose pallet cover, while construction grade PE cover film often needs puncture resistance, fast deployment, and stable temporary outdoor performance.

Applications

  • Greenhouse and nursery covering:clear or diffusion-grade LDPE / LLDPE greenhouse covering film for light entry, crop weather protection, and seasonal structures.
  • Construction cover:temporary roofing, scaffold sheeting, material pile covering, dust control, and rain protection where puncture resistance matters.
  • Outdoor packaging protection:pallet covers, machinery covers, equipment wrapping, and yard storage protection against dust, moisture, sunlight, and short outdoor exposure.
  • Polyethylene vapour barrier film:crawl space cover, under-floor moisture control, concrete curing cover, and construction moisture separation where overlap design matters.
  • Agricultural outdoor covering:low tunnel film, crop cover, black-white ground cover, and field protection where UV exposure and edge fixing need attention.

How should thickness, color, and transparency be selected for outdoor PE covering film?

Thickness should match handling stress as well as exposure time. Thin film can work for short wrapping cycles, but exposed frames, construction covers, and outdoor packaging usually need higher tear resistance and 350%-600% typical elongation at break. Clear material supports daylight and greenhouse visibility, diffusion grade softens direct sunlight, milky white film reflects heat, and black film blocks light. For vapour barrier use, thickness consistency, puncture resistance, overlap design, and clean installation are more important than transparency. Testing one roll under real fixing and exposure conditions can help prevent splitting, early cracking, poor light performance, or weak moisture separation.

FAQ

What is uv stabilized polyethylene film used for?

It is used for greenhouse covering, construction cover, outdoor packaging, agricultural covering, and polyethylene vapour barrier applications.

Is this film made from LDPE or LLDPE?

It can be made from LDPE, LLDPE, or a PE blend depending on flexibility, clarity, tear strength, and puncture resistance requirements.

How long can the film last outdoors?

Outdoor life can range from seasonal use to 6-36 months typical grades, depending on UV intensity, thickness, color, stabilizer package, and installation method.

Can UV stabilized PE film be recycled?

Yes. It is PE-based and can be recycled where clean PE film collection and processing streams are available.
